Fall, Glow, Dissolve

for string quartet

After a very intuitive start into the composition process, I was interested in organizing my material very clearly and decided to focus on three very distinctive elements:
a falling motive that develops into a delicate texture, a glowing melodic fragment that first appears in Violin I and seeks to develop throughout the piece, and an element of dissolving that can take various shapes. The melody and the dissolving element enter into a field of tension, which was crucial for the shaping of the form. It was important to me to assign a clear function to all three elements and yet let them enter into a relationship with each other in order to create a dynamic musical organism with a clear dramaturgical arc. What comes out of it for me is something that reminds me of a poem in four stanzas. The very restrictive choice of elements makes the music somewhat artificial in a minimalist way, but it is important to me that it be understood as very lyrical and meditative.
